Leading mobility aid manufacturer launches community fund to tackle accessibility barriers

A leading mobility aid manufacturer in the UK has launched a new community fund to support people with reduced mobility across Lincoln.

Sunrise Medical has launched its Community Fund to help break down the financial and practical barriers that can prevent people living with mobility challenges from fully participating in their communities.

Through a £5,000 fund, the initiative will support projects, opportunities and improvements that make community spaces and experiences more accessible, helping to create more wheelchair-friendly and inclusive environments while enabling more people to take part in the things that matter to them.

The fund has been designed to support disabled people in accessing activities, goals and aspirations that may otherwise be difficult due to mobility-related barriers and the additional costs that accessibility requirements can bring. This could include funding accessible accommodation for a dream family trip to Disneyland, make a belated honeymoon possible, or travel adaptations and support that enables someone to finally see the Northern Lights.

For others, it might mean support for a supervised beach visit using specialist mobility equipment, or the opportunity to make their way down the aisle on their wedding day with the help of a standing wheelchair.

Whatever the ambition, the initiative aims to provide practical support for people with mobility issues to take part in experiences, activities and milestones that matter to them.

“We know that the right support can help remove barriers and create more opportunities for people to take part in the moments and experiences that matter the most to them. Sometimes it’s about accessing equipment or assistance that helps someone do something they’ve always wanted to do, while other times it’s about creating opportunities that build independence, confidence and enjoyment.

“We’re encouraging people to share their stories with us and tell us what experience, opportunity or support would make the biggest difference to them. We want this fund to have a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of people with mobility issues.

“Whether it’s supporting a special family trip, celebrating a milestone occasion, or helping someone do something they’ve wanted to do for a long time, we’re looking forward to supporting as many people as possible across Lincoln.”

Applications will be reviewed by a selection panel made up of representatives from Sunrise Medical. Entries will be assessed based on the potential impact the funding could have on the applicant’s quality of life, with a particular focus on helping people living with mobility challenges turn aspirations into reality and achieve personal ambitions.

The fund is now open and will close at 11:59pm on 30 September 2026.
