Residents across Northern Lincolnshire are set to benefit from major investment in clean energy skills and careers.

Training provider GTEC are set to deliver a wide range of industry recognised courses to support the region’s growing green economy, in a scheme dedicated to preparing the local workforce for the huge opportunities emerging across the clean energy sector. It also contributes to the UK’s wider ambitions under Clean Power 2030 and the journey to net zero by 2050.

Individuals living in Northern Lincolnshire, or who have been employed in the area within the last two years, are eligible to access the courses.

They’re perfect for anyone looking to retrain or upskill, the programme will make it easier for residents to gain the qualifications needed for future‑proof, sustainable careers, especially those transitioning from carbon‑intensive industries into clean energy roles.

Through the Regional Skills Pilot Scheme and backed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), this project has been supported with £3 million of grant funding awarded across the UK to progress its net zero ambitions.

With more than 15 years' experience, GTEC brings national expertise in low‑carbon, technical, and utilities training, working closely with major manufacturers and industry partners. All courses are accredited by LCL Awards, City & Guilds, or EUSR, ensuring participants gain industry‑standard qualifications.

This investment is vital for North East Lincolnshire, where clean energy is one of the fastest‑growing sectors of the local economy. Recent evidence from Humber‑based industries suggests that more than 32,000 green energy, decarbonisation, and hydrogen‑related jobs could be created across the region by 2040.

To build on this momentum and connect young people with future opportunities in North East Lincolnshire, upcoming events will feature ‘clean energy’ activities supported by TARGET NEL CIC:

  • Parents’ Careers Evening on Wednesday 18th March at Humber Royal, Grimsby. Book your free place at https://forms.office.com/e/ajv7k6feF5.
  • Skills Fair – Wednesday 8th July at Grimsby Auditorium, invite only for local schools.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration, Devolution and Skills at North East Lincolnshire Council, welcomed the announcement: “Empowering our residents to unlock their potential and achieve their goals is critical to the future of our borough. If we want to get more people into better paid jobs and make our communities more prosperous, we must ensure local people can take the opportunities available.

“We know the demand for skilled workers is here, and we do have a gap to close. This funding is an important step, and we look forward to working closely with GTEC, the Midlands Net Zero Hub and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to support our residents and the sector.”

Places on the GTEC courses are limited and will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis, subject to specific eligibility criteria for the funding scheme. For more information on course availability and eligibility, or to register interest, individuals and employers are encouraged to contact GTEC Training directly at info@gtec.co.uk.
