Whether you're looking to learn, develop your skills, or get a new job, the Adult Careers Team will point you in the right direction. Find them at their monthly drop-in sessions at Grimsby Jobcentre Plus – no appointment needed!

North East Lincolnshire Council’s Adult Careers Team and Jobcentre Plus are offering the sessions to all over 19s – it doesn’t matter whether you have a job or not. If you are already being supported by the Jobcentre, ask your Work Coach to make you an appointment.

The next two are on Wednesday, 6 November and Wednesday, 4 December (first Wednesday of the month), from 10am to 3pm, at Grimsby Jobcentre, 225 Victoria Street, Grimsby, DN31 1NH. November’s session will have a focus on renewable energy, coinciding with National Green Careers Week.

The sessions are supported by different providers including Learning4Life, Franklin College’s Adult Learning provision and Creating Positive Opportunity (CPO), giving residents the chance to explore the different opportunities on their doorstep. Nick Gregory, Employer and Partnership Manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: “The workshops are a great way for people to find out about the range of training and job opportunities available. The providers can offer help across all different sectors.”

The Adult Careers Team is currently advising around 128 people a month – helping them access jobs, training, and education. Using their expertise to recognise both recruitment challenges and skills gaps in the area, the team also leads projects including ‘careerShift’, and ‘Your Digital Life’.

Funded by Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and a National Careers Service contract, careerShift encourages people to switch up their choices and work in different sectors. During the eight-week programme, participants attend two, two-hour sessions a week to improve their employability skills, personal wellbeing, and financial management, as well as hearing from local employers.

Supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, the Your Digital Life programme, encourages adults to improve their online and digital skills. These free sessions are held every Monday from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Heritage House in Grimsby Town Centre.

Overseeing the Adult Careers Team, Wendy Trask, Operations Manager for Employability at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “It is a privilege to lead the team of careers and employability advisers. They strive to deliver the most appropriate information, advice, and guidance to anyone who needs it, and that means anything from a telephone or face-to-face appointment to signposting for suitable training.

“These sessions at the Jobcentre are just one of the ways people can access our team, whether claiming benefits or not. It’s a great partnership effort from all involved, meaning everyone gets the support that’s best for them, straight away.”

Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration, Devolution and Skills at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “These programmes are perfect examples of how we can deliver accessible and tailored career advice, empowering our residents to unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

“With these initiatives, we are not only providing opportunities for employment but also contributing to a brighter future for North East Lincolnshire. We are thankful for the funding we have received, and the support offered through our partnerships that make this possible.”
