THE CULTURE HOUSE BRINGS VIBRANT COMMUNITY FOOD EVENT EDIBLE GRIMSBY TO ST. JAMES’ SQUARE, ON SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER

FREE CREATIVE EVENT Edible Grimsby returns to the town on Saturday 5 October promising free food tastings, food and drink stalls, entertainment and much more, for the whole family.

This vibrant event produced by The Culture House in partnership with Emergency Exit Arts, celebrates growing, cooking and sharing food and offers a delightful blend of live performances, music, free tastings of jams, chutneys and pickles made by community groups and food, drink and craft stalls provided by OE Makers Market.

Taking place from 11am - 4pm, the day will include an array of performances from both local and national talent including street theatre, live music, immersive creative story-telling shows and indoor theatre.

Local community groups Oasis Hub, Community Shop, Friendship at Home and makers including Beetroot Collective will be making bespoke sauces and ‘A Jar of Goodness’ using locally grown ingredients (provided by Green Futures). Rhubarb jams and onion chutney will be offered for tasting, together with home-made scones provided by The Canopy Kitchen.

Other fantastic local food stalls that have recently between them served thousands at Cleethorpes’ Grub Fest, will include the popular Greek Shack. Riverhead Coffee will also be providing tasting treats and mini bites.

During the event, enjoy the booming global sounds of Punjabi Roots, a band of brilliant drummers sure to get your body shaking in the square.

As well as fun, food-related street theatre, visitors can also enjoy three amazing shows by national touring companies - TEABREAK, TOAST and A Tiger’s Tale for children by M6 Theatre.

TEABREAK

Offering chai tea served from a beautifully hand painted ‘Tuk Tuk’, this gentle performance brings a moment of calm, honouring one of our most-loved rituals: tea drinking.

Using immersive headphones, glide through a sound journey of tea and how it’s found itself into our tea pots. 

This mesmerising journey takes you from ‘leaf to cup’, travelling across continents, from the sounds of tea-pickers in Sri Lanka to the hum of a British cafe. It features sound clips from gardeners, historians, tea-makers, mothers and children speaking about what tea means to them. The audio is accompanied by a delightful dance piece, performed by dancers in beautiful costumes.

TOAST 

This outdoor show also takes audiences on a journey around the world and through the seasons with music, food, stories and dance!

Join the ‘Guild of Toasters’ at their Toast cart for 45 minutes and immerse with the performers who along the way provide pancakes, coffee and wonderful ‘Cypriot Doughnuts’ in a show like no other. Expect singing, dancing, wild grannies and lots of laughing!

A TIGER’S TALE

A children’s show being hosted within the Minster, this production for ages 4 - 11 by M6 Theatre presents a fantastical production by an award winning playwright, Mike Kenny. 

Based on the extraordinary story of ‘Fenella’, A TIGER'S TALE is a high spirited balancing act of circus, puppetry, live music and song.

From a circus train in South Africa, to a steamboat on the Atlantic Ocean and onward to West Yorkshire, a ramshackle travelling troupe tells us the unbelievable true story of a family of acrobats and their adopted tiger cub.

A Tiger’s Tale is free to attend but must be booked in advance through Birdhouse www.birdhousetheatre.co.uk as limited places are available.

Also on the day, the Made in Grimsby stage will showcase local music talent throughout the day and there will be judging of a children’s scarecrow competition within the ‘Wacky Patch’, decorated with locally-grown pumpkins.

More fun and entertainment includes circus skills and the Stilt-Walking Chefs from the Earthbound Misfits, the Artisans walkabout duo as well as Nunny’s Farm and local author Rosita Bird whose stall will be showcasing her children’s books on healthy-eating themes.
