More than 700 people taking part in next week's Armed Forces Day parades.

Cleethorpes is once again hosting the National Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June as part of the Armed Forces weekend.

In a change to the normal schedule, there are two parades this year, and both are a lot earlier than normal in the day.

At 11am, there will be a motorcycle and military vehicle parade, and then the main parade of serving personnel, veterans and cadets will follow at 1130am.

Both parades start from the same area – between the top of Grant Street and Sea Road in the resort.

The motorcycle and military vehicle parade will Include veterans from the Royal British Legion Riders, Ride to the Wall bikers, the light Dragoon Bikers amongst others. They will be followed by the Grimsby and District Pipe Band, ahead of approximately 25 historic military vehicles.

The main military parade of approximately 700 people will be headed by the Band of the Coldstream Guards, followed by uniformed serving personnel from the Royal Navy, Army (Royal Anglian Regiment) and the Royal Air Force. They will be accompanied by the British Army Band from Catterick, and followed by standards and military associations.

The second wave will include veterans from all services alongside the Royal British Legion, Merchant Navy and RNLI. The veterans will be accompanied by the RAF Waddington Pipe Band.

The final wave in the main parade will be the Cadet Force section, with representatives from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Combined Cadet Force and RAF Air Cadets. They will be headed by The Sea Cadet Band and further accompanied by the RAF Air Cadet Corps of Drums.

The parade will travel along Alexandra Road, taking in the salute at The Knoll (building at the top of Knoll Street), and High Cliff Road.

Gavin Marshall, from the Armed Forces Major Events Team, said: “The parade is one of the highlights of the whole weekend, and to have the Coldstream Guards leading our fantastic parade in their Anniversary year is wonderful.”

Local roads will be closed off early for the parades to form up and leave on time. Early arrival in the resort is recommended! All Veterans are encouraged to participate.

Traffic and travel advice to the resort is available on the Council’s website: https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/armed-forces-day-ultimate-travel-and-transport-guide/
