From seasonal crafts and activities to outdoor trails and winter wildlife, there’s lots to keep young explorers busy this half term at the National Trust’s places in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

 

With miles of gardens, parkland and countryside to explore on those crisp winter days and indoor activities for when the rain sets in, there’s plenty to do, whatever the February weather brings.

The National Trust’s cosy tearooms offer warming treats and kids lunch packs, and the shops have lovely selections of pocket money toys for little ones to browse.

Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers” Trail

Things are getting wild at Clumber Park and on the Belton Estate! From 14 February – 8 March, discover a playful adventure, inspired by Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers”, in Cinemas 6 March.

Belton Estate, near Grantham, Lincolnshire

This season is all about Winter Wellness at Belton Estate, and families of all ages can take part in mindfulness activities. Tai Chi and Qigong sessions are being offered for both young families and teens and adults. Specially crafted children’s classes will offer the chance to join in a magical journey, performing some of the animal movements of Tai Chi and Qigong in an immersive fantasy story. Families are being encouraged to take in the seasonal joy of the gardens too with beautiful displays of snowdrops and daffodils on show and facts to discover while exploring.

On Thursday 19 February, themed family crafts will tie in with the Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers” trail, giving children the chance to make their own cute beaver characters to take home, while the activity on Saturday 21 will focus on the flowers in the gardens, as participants make daffodil wreaths!

Clumber Park, Worksop, Nottinghamshire

From wild adventures in the woods to family bike rides around the estate, Clumber Park provides the perfect backdrop for spending time together and connecting with nature. With 3,800 acres of parkland and the Discovery Centre for some indoor respite, there is an endless amount of fun to be had and plenty for children to explore.

Open every day, 9.00 – 16.00, no booking required. Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers” trail runs from 14 February – 9 March.

 Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens, Lincolnshire

This half‑term, let young adventurers swoop, scuttle and stomp their way through our wild and wonderful Birds, Bugs & Beasts Trail!

Perfect for children aged 3–11, this interactive garden trail invites families to explore the outdoors while tackling fun, nature‑inspired challenges at every stop. From spotting feathered friends to uncovering tiny crawlies and curious creatures hidden among the plants, there’s plenty to discover along the way.

Hands‑on activities include the Butterfly Circle of Life, playful Tongue Twister Teasers, and the chance to create your own Nature Crown – ensuring excitement and creativity around every corner. It’s a fantastic way to get outside, spark young imaginations and learn more about the fascinating wildlife that calls our gardens home.

The Workhouse & Infirmary, Southwell, Nottinghamshire

 

 

A Victorian half term adventure awaits from Saturday 14 – Sunday 22 February. Discover long-lost Victorian words and phrases while exploring the brand-new Cheer Up Chuckaboo Trail (£2.50 per trail), which runs every day. Meet costumed characters and hear stories of the people who once lived here with Tales from The Workhouse on Thursday & Saturday. Children are invited to stretch in time and enjoy an imaginative and playful yoga session inspired by workhouse life, Monday 16 February, 11.00 & 14.00.

With stories to hear, a trail to follow and plenty to spark curiosity, it’s a great way for families to explore history together this half term. Open daily, 10.00 – 16.00 (last entry 15.00). No booking required.

Woolsthorpe Manor, near Grantham, Lincolnshire

Woolsthorpe Manor will be reopening for 2026 on Saturday 14 February, just in time to introduce a new generation of curious minds to the amazing discoveries of Sir Isaac Newton for half term. The interactive family Science Centre has just welcomed a fantastic colour-changing infinity light alongside its distortion mirrors, holographic apple, gravity games and more. Brand new for 2026, the courtyard is now home to some great play activities too with a sand pendulum, water wall and Newton’s cradle for young visitors to enjoy.
