Road closures to support Remembrance Day commemorations

Today, the date is widely used to acknowledge all those who have served their country and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On Sunday 9 November, parts of North East Lincolnshire will come to a standstill as residents take a moment to remember those who have fallen in conflicts around the world.

Services of Remembrance will take place at Grimsby Minster and St Peter’s Church in Cleethorpes, followed by parades through both towns.

A number of road closures will be in place to ensure the commemorations can go ahead undisturbed.

Diversion routes will be introduced at various locations to allow onward travel.

Grimsby

The Service of Remembrance at Grimsby Minster will begin at 09:30am on Sunday 9 November.

At 10:25am, a parade will muster outside Grimsby Minster, marching over Deansgate Bridge and along Bargate towards the Cenotaph opposite Grimsby Institute on Nuns Corner, Grimsby, arriving at 10:50am.

A coach will be available for those who attend the service at the Minster and are unable to walk to Cenotaph.

A short service will take place at the Cenotaph, during which a gun will fire twice to mark the beginning and end of two minutes silence. Wreaths will be laid.

Road closures will be in place from around 10 am to facilitate the parade on Bethlehem Street, Church Lane, Deansgate, and Bargate. Neighbouring streets may be affected for a short time during the parade, but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.

Cleethorpes

In Cleethorpes, a service will take place at St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Avenue, from 10am.

A parade will assemble outside the church at 10:45am before a public Service of Remembrance takes place. Wreaths will then be laid.

The service will be followed by a parade from St Peter’s Church at 11.30am, walking along St Peter’s Avenue, Short Street, Market Street and Alexandra Road before arriving at the Memorial Gate at 12pm.

These roads will be closed from around 10am for the duration of the parade. Adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

Immingham

A short parade will muster at Immingham lorry park on Pelham Road at 10:30am, marching to the Memorial at 10.45am.

After a Service of Remembrance at the Memorial, the parade will make it’s way to the Civic Centre for refreshments.

New Waltham

New Waltham has a short service planned from 10.45am at the New Waltham War Memorial, followed by a Church service at St Matthews.

Healing

A Parade will march from the Royal British Legion in Healing at 10:30am, to the Cenotaph, where a service will take place from 10:45am.

Waltham

In Waltham, the Remembrance Service will take place at 11am at the Waltham War Memorial, with two minutes silence being observed.

A parade will form-up at 10:30am in the grounds of the Waltham Royal British Legion.

At 11:15am, the parade will march to a service at Waltham All Saints Church, returning to the grounds of the Royal British Legion for 12:10pm.

Road closures are in place, and adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

Stallingborough

A short service will take place at the War Memorial on Station Road, with a road closure in place to facilitate the event. Attendees will then make their way to the village hall for refreshments.
