If you are planning to host a public bonfire in North East Lincolnshire this year, you’ll need to notify the Council, or your plans could end up putting others at risk.

North East Lincolnshire Council is reminding event organisers that the authorities need to be notified of public events for safety reasons.

Public events are a great way to bring the community together and can help reduce the number of bonfires built in communal areas or in the gardens of homes. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service will be actively encouraging the public to attend public displays and will be working closely with partners to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for all.

Public events take a great deal of planning, and have to take into account a lot of legal regulations, taking responsibility for the safety of those that attend the event.

Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “We all enjoy watching a marvellous fireworks display, but event organisers must take lots of things into account before planning an event, including notifying the Council. We are here to help event planners to ensure their event is safe and enjoyable for the public.”

The form to notify the council and partners is available from the council’s website, www.nelincs.gov.uk/apply-for-it under the Events section.
