Op Coastline: Car seized and 40 offences dealt with in Council and Humberside Police operation

A car has been seized and several other offences captured by Council teams and Humberside Police officers during an operation in Cleethorpes.

 

Op Coastline is focused on a heightened police presence in coastal towns and cities, such as Cleethorpes, where the Summer months can often lead to increased crime and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

To tackle this, officers have been conducting high visibility patrols around Cleethorpes with Roads Policing teams tackling speeding and other ASB along key roads in the area.

Between Friday, August 8, and Sunday, August 10, 2025, officers, aided by Council CCTV operatives and Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), reported 41 offences as part of Op Coastline. These ranged from issues such as not wearing a seatbelt to more severe incidents including someone driving a cloned vehicle.

Other reports included people car windows being tinted above the legal limit; travelling at 69mph in a 30mph zone and not having insurance or an MOT.

To help with the operation, the Council’s CCTV spots potential crimes and reports them to Humberside Police who can then act accordingly whilst archiving evidence for them to use in any potential investigations.

Additionally, the Council have introduced a range of PSPOs to help deter ASB in areas like Grimsby Town Centre and Cleethorpes to improve the safety and wellbeing of visitors and residents.

“This partnership approach has led to a more streamlined method for helping tackle crime across the borough,” said Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities.

He added: “I’m thrilled to see such a positive impact on the resort and hope we can continue this in the coming months as we look to maintain a safe and welcoming area for residents and visitors alike.”

Inspector Pete Musgrave of Humberside Police said: “We’re really pleased to continue our partnership work with local authorities as part of Op Coastline this summer to tackle antisocial behaviour in coastal towns such as Cleethorpes. We’re now in the height of the summer holidays and our coastal and market towns have already started to see an influx of tourists to the area.

Local residents and those visiting our force area can expect to see officers from a variety of teams out and about conducting high visibility patrols, with a continued focus on engaging with those in the area and promoting conversations with our communities”.
