New CCTV cameras installed at Grimsby Auditorium to combat Anti-Social Behaviour

CCTV cameras have been installed at Grimsby Auditorium to help stop nuisance behaviour.

 

The 20 new cameras are situated around the entirety of the venue and are connected to the Council’s main CCTV network.

 

Installed in 2023, the £2.25 million system ensures that North East Lincolnshire is a safe and welcoming place to be. Currently, there are 151 CCTV cameras and 43 Rapid Deployment Cameras across the borough in a number of locations.

 

Now, this new addition cements the Council’s ambition to protect the public and ensures those who are found to be breaking the law or causing Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) are given the correct sanctions.

 

In 2024, the CCTV system and other methods led to a 11% decrease in crime in Grimsby Town Centre and has been one of the main instigators in ensuring those breaking the law are reprimanded.

 

For example, thanks to CCTV evidence, perpetrators have been found guilty and sentenced for a range of crimes including assault, criminal damage and much more.

 

Recently at the Auditorium, there have been reports of cars being driven erratically at the rear of the building as well as other ASB deemed to be a nuisance to the area.

 

It is hoped that, with these new cameras, these incidents will cease and make sure the Auditorium is only being used for its intended purpose.

Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: “This is great news. Adding extra security to some of our most important buildings can only be a positive action.

 

“The auditorium is an amazing entertainment venue, the Council and Lincs Inspire are both agreed that people’s safety is the number one priority. Let this be a warning to those who are committing ASB in the area, if found you will be brought to justice.

 

“We have seen how effective the CCTV system has been across the rest of the borough since its installation and I’ve no doubt it will be just as helpful here.”
