An area of land once blighted with litter and overgrown hedges has now been made safer and clean thanks to the hard work of Council staff and a local Grimsby business.

The section of land, Robinson Street East, just off Pasture Street, was completely transformed by members of the Council, East Marsh Construction and contractors with Halfords and B&Q, who helped to remove unwanted items and clear the hedgerows to improve people’s safety when walking to and from the town centre.

Partnering with the Council’s Environmental Health team, works were carried out on this land, but also on the nearby land bordering Peaks Parkway removing fly tipping, pruning shrubs and cutting the grass as part of the wider project.

Finally, bark chippings were added to the whole area to visually enhance and stop weed growth to ensure the problem doesn’t reoccur.

The Council are also working with landowners who own other sections of the area to continue the great work that has already been done.

For those who use the area to get to and from the centre, it’s been a real positive. One person said: “It looks a lot cleaner and more presentable. I’m so glad they’ve done this and removing the hedgerows certainly makes me feel safer when I’m walking through the area.”

Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, said: “This is great work from everyone involved and I’m so glad we could do this to a piece of land that many may have felt was neglected.

“Littering is never acceptable; I would ask people to think twice before dropping their waste on the floor. There is always a bin nearby and the result of littering is never a positive one.

“I hope people can respect the exceptional work that has been carried out and we all have a part to play in keeping the area look as good as it does. I can’t wait to see it when the additional works have been carried out.”
