This World Social Work Day, we’re celebrating the fantastic people doing social work in our area, supporting vulnerable children and adults.

In this article, we’re shining a light on those people who help to safeguard children in North East Lincolnshire, protecting them from harm and supporting foster carers to provide loving homes.

In 2024, there were more than 34,000 full-time local authority social workers supporting children and families across England, and more than 7,000 vacancies nationwide.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for children and education, explained that social workers are a vital support for families across the country:

“Last year, research from the University College London found that a quarter of all children in England have a social worker at some point before they reach the age of 18.

“That’s millions of families who benefit from the help and support offered by these qualified professionals – millions of families who are kept together through that support.

“So on this World Social Work Day, I’d like to say thank you to all of our wonderful social workers who really do go above and beyond to care for the families that they work with.”

Ann-Marie Matson, Director of Children’s Services in North East Lincolnshire, added:

“We have exceptionally kind, compassionate and hard working teams of social workers who do such fantastic work with children, young people and families in our area.

“This World Social Worker, I want to pay a special tribute to three North East Lincolnshire Council social workers who have been nominated for British Association Of Social Workers Amazing Social Workers Awards.

“Over the last two years we’ve been on an incredible journey. In September last year we received fantastic feedback from Ofsted following the rapid improvement across our services, and last month our Children’s Services team were shortlisted by the Local Government Chronicle for a national award.

“Thank you to all of you for the work you do, day in, day out, to support our families.”

Three social workers from North East Lincolnshire Council have been nominated for this year’s British Association of Social Workers Amazing Social Workers Awards: Ellis, Jasmine, and Bev.

Could you be one of our wonderful social workers?

As a Social Worker in North East Lincolnshire Council’s Children’s Services, you will work as part of a team to provide high quality Social Work practice to make a lasting difference to the lives of children and families. You will be joining a service that is built on pride and passion, who have high aspirations for children and families and who are committed to empowering them to thrive and be the best they can be.

We currently have vacancies for qualified Social Workers as well as those looking to undertake their ASYE year.
