Works along Tritton Road forming the new entrance into the Charterholme site, including new traffic light signals at the junction of Tritton Road and Dixon Street, have now been completed.

This milestone marks a significant step in unlocking the delivery of new homes at Charterholme, with the new access road from Tritton Road now in place.

The road will eventually link with the first new access junction off Skellingthorpe Road, which was completed in 2024, creating a fully connected route across the site.

The new vehicular bridge over the railway is also progressing well, and all works are due to be completed in December 2025.

Cllr Joshua Wells, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive, Sustainable Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council, said:

“The completion of the Tritton Road works is an important milestone for the Charterholme development and for the wider city. By investing in modern, sustainable infrastructure, we’re optimising land for new homes, schools, shops and green spaces, all of which will help support Lincoln’s growing community and economy.

“Through the Charterholme development, we’re creating a well-connected, sustainable neighbourhood that brings long-term benefits for residents and businesses.”

Alastair Lewis, Contracts Director for GRAHAM, explained:

“The new eastern gateway into the Charterholme site is on track to be completed before the end of the year.

“The connection to Tritton Road is now substantially completed, along with upgrades to the Dixon St signalised junction.  Completing these aspects of the project during the summer months has helped us to minimise any disruption along this busy traffic route.

“Working collaboratively with the City of Lincoln and Lincolnshire County Council has been instrumental to achieving this success.”

Maria Clayton, Capital Projects Manager from City of Lincoln Council, stated:

“The delivery of these works will provide a second, eastern access into the Charterholme site, which will open up the site for future housing delivery and eventually connect to the western access point off Skellingthorpe Road, which was completed in 2024.

“In addition to the development of much-needed housing for the city, the scheme proposals include the delivery of a primary school, community, retail and recreational facilities, amongst other uses granted outline planning consent in 2022.”

Proposals for the next phase of development for the Charterholme project will focus on the delivery of infrastructure works, such as building the roads and services needed to open up the site for new homes and facilities.

This will include the construction of the new link road through the site, as well as putting in key utilities like drainage, water and electricity utilities.

City of Lincoln Council and Lindum Western Growth Community, who own the land, are currently working on the design and route for the new road.

If planning permission and funding are approved, the next phase of work is expected to start in 2026.
