Refurbishment work will start on both Freshney Place multi-storey car parks from Monday, 12 May.

Carried out by Makers Construction Limited, the significant upgrade will enhance safety, functionality, and overall user experience. Work includes:

Both car parks will be worked on at the same time, but Freshney Place and the contractors have planned the works to make sure the highest number of spaces remain accessible while refurbishment progresses.

Meanwhile, work is well underway with the demolition of the former market hall and the top level of the BHS building.

Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of the Council, said: “Work is really progressing well now in Freshney Place. With current unit occupancy being maintained at around 95%, it means that we have money ringfenced to invest back into the structure of the building.”
