Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre has received high praise following a visit from Visit England.

The centre has received a nomination for a national award and high praise in a number of categories from staff to overall experience. For the third year in a row, employees have been entered for the Visit England Welcome Accolade. The staff category measures the standards of customer care, knowledge, efficiency and appearance.

Both the museum itself and the Ross Tiger tour were given a score of almost 90%, demonstrating how impressive the attraction is.

The assessor, having never visited before acting as a member of the public, said: “the staff could not be faulted, even though one of the staff was new and under training,” adding: “Overall, the Heritage Centre’s staff were a very positive aspect of the visit and they significantly added to the visitor experience.”

Also receiving acclaim was the Ross Tiger and it’s tour guide, former skipper Robert Formby. The assessor said it was a “a really excellent, authentic in-person guided tour as illustrated not only by my experience on the day but also by the many positive online reviews”.

Speaking about the former skipper, they said: “Excellent and could not be faulted in this role of providing an authentic and vastly knowledgeable guided tour for a diverse audience.”

The Galley café was also given a special mention in the overall report, along with the current exhibition, Rambles in Lincolnshire. Held in the Muriel Baker gallery, the event displays almost 100 Lincolnshire railway posters from the past. The exhibition is free, running until Sunday, 4 May.

They described it as being “superbly presented and absolutely fascinating not only for local audiences and those interested in railway heritage, but for more general visitors too, as illustrated by exhibition feedback. The team is to be congratulated on this.”

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre is also an Arts Council England Accredited Museum and member of the Humber Museums Partnership. It holds the Sandford Award for Heritage Education and is a long-term recipient of the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Award for consistent high ratings in online reviews.

The management and team at the attraction would like to publicly thank their dedicated and enthusiastic staff, as well as all of the public that have supported the attraction with their reviews which make a real difference to the museum.

Councillor Hayden Dawkins, Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Heritage and Visitor Economy, said: “This is excellent news. We are so proud of our heritage and want to do all we can to champion that.

“This is a clear example of how the museum is not only enjoyed by local residents, but by visitors nationally too.”
